Articulating Silence Part III
Posted by Eric Carter on Aug 9, 2009 in Blog, Enlightenment, Personal Development | 0 commentsIf one thought represented the time span of life on earth, all of life would arise and sink back into the Source of Thought, which is this awareness (Infinite Silence). Here, I am adding a layer to this knowledge. If you noticed in Part II, I started talking about the individual and thoughts, and traversed to encompass the entire universe. The trick here is to not limit ourselves by our current paradigm. We say, “how can my little awareness make up the universe” (I am expanding on this idea in this post right here)? This type of thought automatically places a boundary on, and limits this infinite intelligence. [From part II]
Ok, this is the last post in this series, I promise. I just really wanted to elaborate on this idea of individual awareness being cosmic awareness (this experience unfolds in layers). Maharishi Mahesh Yogi points out the simple analogy that the air on one side of a wall is the same as the air on the other side of the wall… Air is more subtle than the wall. Just because there is a wall seemingly separating the air doesn’t mean it is different air. Like that, our inner experience is the very same essence as outer experience. We tend to put up a shield between ourselves and nature. I am here, nature is out there. What this post is describing is the unity of inner awareness and outer experience. For some the abstract, subjective experience of eyes closed is the same as eyes open. What does this mean? You say, “this is not my experience.”
Tonight when you go to bed make sure there is no light. If you have to, put a blanket over your head. Now, close your eyes and open them. Ask yourself, “what do I see.” Ask as if it is the first time you have ever seen this darkness (so you don’t take this moment for granted). Do you see colors, or small particles making up your awareness. If you do… notice how these colors and particles are still there as you open your eyes. Even if you don’t, eyes open darkness is exactly the same as eyes shut darkness… inner is outer. If your body didn’t exist and everything you were is what you saw in this moment of darkness, who you were would be EVERYTHING.
Now, you know there is a lamp in the corner, and a dresser over there, but you can’t see it. Without all these objects in our daily experience to put our attention on… it is easier to notice awareness is all that there is. When all of these objects fall apart, decay and fade what is left is Pure Consciousness, Pure Awareness. And, you are not separate from This. Underlying the fleeting, and changing story of what makes up you as a person is this Pure Intelligence.
You know, I would like to take a time out and send gratitude to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This Saint from the Himalayas has not only blessed me with the language to even come close to articulating this experience, but has provided a brilliant technique to directly experience Pure Consciousness. Transcendental Meditation is backed by a beautiful tradition of Vedic Seers, and is available for anyone to learn and practice.
Direct experience is really the only way to know for yourself what the heck I am so passionate about. If your interested in learning let me know and I can point you in the direction to potentially get sponsored to learn this technique.
Folks please Digg this post or tweet to your friends if this resonates with you…
Until next time,
