The 3 Pilars of Health

Modern science talks about three mainstays of physical health. These are diet, rest and exercise.”The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that adults perform at least one set of strengthening moves 2 to 3 times per week (www.healthcoachtraining.com).” This is sufficient to turn a wholesome diet into quality muscle and to create vitality for the individual. One of the most important aspects of individual health is the discipline to maintain a healthy balance of diet and exercise. When we know our bodies digestion and metabolism we can eat anything we want. When we accompany our meals with the proper workout duration and intensity we burn calories and create a physiological setting to meet our physical needs and desires.

Rest is a staple for a healthy body. Furthermore, the cessation of sleep deprivation adds to not only our ability to maintain and build healthy tissue, but adds to our overall quality of life. Our mental clarity and personal growth is largely dependent upon how rested we are.

Lastly, I would like to add to modern science’s perspective of health with one added element from the angle of holistic healthcare and prevention. Happiness helps one enjoy and sustain their progress as well as take a lighter less serious approach. This is important for most individuals in our culture, as we have been raised with the mindset that straining is accomplishing. This is not the always the best way to progress. We know that rest equates to efficiency, and the happier we are the less tension and stress in our minds and bodies and the more efficiently our we are able to work to meet our goals and to show results.
