Hands down, the most important thing we can do for our health is to be more sensitive to our bodies. Today, modern science tells us we need so many servings of this, and this many glasses of water a day. These are great guidelines to get people putting their attention on proper nutrition. But, the fact is proper nutrition for me, may be toxic for you. So what is your perfect diet?
We live in a dynamic world, yet we get habituated so easy. We seem to want things to stay the same, when the best thing for us is to change things up a bit. We generalize all too much in a world that is absolutely new in every moment.
Some people have great digestion and exercise often. These people need more nourishing foods. These individuals simply have more powerful digestion and metabolism than someone who is already heavyset and sits behind a desk for eight hours a day.
Amongst all the information and technology we are surrounded by, the most powerful is that of our own intuition, insight, experience and balanced desires. The body changes with the seasons, even different times of day for that matter. We eat more in the cold winter than we do in the heat of the summer. However, most people get caught in cycles and eat to fulfill their palate and decrease stress and anxiety. I am not undermining the importance of enjoying your food, but I will state the obvious. Taste is not the only factor of a balanced diet. The more balanced you are, the more you will desire a balanced diet.
In our culture we eat very heavy meals to ground us from constant movement and stress (whether it be mental or physical) . However, when we can eliminate this unbalanced energy with exercise and enjoyable hobbies, our diet gains more clarity. We are freed up to break mental patterns, and habits of food and even food preparation. We start to not so much eat for the habit or past impressions food has made, but because it feels great, tastes delicious and brings energy and vitality to us and those in our environment.
Remember this, “every time we sit to eat it is a chance to introduce more balance into the physiology.”(Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) So next time you eat, ask your body… if you could have anything right now, what would it be? Be honest, and everytime a question arises, simply ask yourself. Our body is our gateway to our own unique perfect diet.
